First-time 3D Mars video lets you fly over Mars: ‘For the first time, we can see Mars spatially — in three dimensions’

(We recommend watching the amazing video in full screen. Click on the full screen icon on the right bottom of the video.)

Experience Mars and its stunning mountains, craters, ancient river beds and lava flows in this newly released 3D Mars video that lets you fly over the Red Planet.

The 3D Mars video was created from images taken by the European satellite which orbited the red planet about 12,500 times. The newly released Mars 3D video “provides a richly detailed, three-dimensional view of the Red Planet,” reported Space.com on Nov. 1, 2013.

"For the first time, we can see Mars spatially — in three dimensions," said Ralf Jaumann, the project manager for the Mars Express mission at the German Aerospace Center.

Mars Express is the European Space Agency's first spacecraft built to explore another planet and the Mars 3D video was produced by the European Space Agency in joined forces with the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

The Mars Express satellite is equipped with a high-resolution stereoscopic camera and a mineralogical mapping spectrometer. Nine light-sensitive detectors aboard Mars Express sweep across the surface of the planet and can capture sequential images of the red planet from nine different angles. The data taken from Mars Express is then processed into three-dimensional images by planetary researchers at the German Aerospace Center.

Government shutdown: What is Drunk Dial Congress and how does it work? You’ll get to talk to someone in Congress, even when drunk (Video)

So what exactly is DrunkDialCongress.org and how does it work? If you are angry enough at the government shutdown and went for a drink, going to drunkdialcongress.org might just be the thing to do.

You put in your phone number on DrunkDialCongress.org and “an inebriated voice from a 1-800 number will call you back and ask, ‘Is this government shutdown making you want to drink?’ before transferring to Capitol Hill.” Once you are transferred to some random Representative or maybe an intern, you do have the chance to talk to a real person and to sound off about the government shutdown.

Mariel Hemingway: ‘With darkness there is light’ – Ernest Hemingway’s granddaughter’s documentary ‘Running from Crazy’

Mariel Hemingway’s words that “with darkness there is light” should be the words imprinted in the heart of every person that struggles with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, alcoholism, depression, suicide, or any other one of life’s difficult challenges.

In the documentary “Running From Crazy,” Mariel Hemingway does one of the bravest things any person can do in his or her lifetime – she is facing her deepest and darkest demons.

Mariel Hemingway’s demons of alcoholism and mental illness span, like in many families, over generations. With more than 7 family suicides, including her sister and her grandfather, Ernest Hemingway, Mariel Hemingway tries to come to terms with her family’s past and tragedies.

“Running From Crazy” is scheduled to be shown on Oct. 6 during the San Diego Film Festival at the ArcLight Cinemas in La Jolla/UTC. One can only hope that the documentary will be made available nationwide.

In the new documentary from Cabin Creek Films, two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple examines the personal journey of Mariel Hemingway as she strives for a greater understanding of her complex family history.

During an interview with Oprah, Mariel Hemingway says that every family’s line of generations has its own demons.  Mariel Hemingway also talks about the Hemingway curse. “With that comes tremendous creativity, love, fame. But also with that comes the opposite. Because I think with darkness there is light.”

In Mariel Hemingway’s case, she describes her family’s darkness as mental illness, mental instability, and insecurity.

While titled “Running From Crazy,” Mariel Hemingway in fact shows that her documentary is not so much a “running from” her family’s legacy but running towards “her family’s curse.”

It is part of an essential spiritual journey, it is part of making a decision, it is part of understanding that the creative mind does have a choice.

Washington Yard shooter: What is Microwave hearing?

On Tuesday, the Washington Navy Yard shooter's stepfather Frank Calderon said that Aaron Alexis was walking out of the World Trade Center subway stop on 9/11 when the first tower collapsed, and that he stayed to help pull bodies from the rubble.

"Aaron said he was on the escalator coming up from the subway station when he saw the building come down. It was right in front of him, and he said he saw it collapse,"

"That day was traumatic for everyone involved. He did not talk much about it, but he said he helped out. He was a strong young man, so he would have done what he could."

But was Aaron Alexis really that strong?

"Our son Aaron Alexis has murdered 12 people and wounded several others. His actions have had a profound and everlasting effect on the families of the victims. I don't know why he did what he did and I'll never be able to ask him why. Aaron is now in a place where he can no longer do harm to anyone and for that I am glad. To the families of the victims I am so, so very sorry that this happened. My heart is broken."

WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

Kidnapped girl found alive: According to a Atlanta News report, Ayvani Hope Perez was found 25 miles away from her home walking along Covington Highway in Conyers. She is in good spirits and in good health and has been reunited with her family.

After having been found safely, the kidnapped girl's abduction is the subject of an intense investigation by several agencies since the kidnapped girl's mother might be linked to one or more of the suspects in the kidnapping case.

Two people were taken into custody as suspects in the kidnapping case and two more suspects are being pursued. While authorities are rather tight-lipped about the case, CBS News Crimesider has linked the location of the kidnapping and a 2012 drug charge arrest of the kidnapped girl's mother to at least one of the suspects.

“The kidnapping happened on a cul-de-sac in Ellenwood, a small community about 10 miles southeast of Atlanta, police said. Stockbridge, where the 2012 drug trafficking arrests occurred, is about 10 miles from Ellenwood.”

The Uzbekistan mystery of 18-year-old Rakhima Ganieva is not the story of an 18-year-old trying to deceive the world but rather the story of an 18-year-old girl being caught between two worlds.

Rakhima Ganieva, also spelled as Rahima Ganieva, has in fact become a pawn between two major players; -- the Muslim world who opposes the Miss World 2013 contest -- and the non-Muslim World who appears to have accepted a Miss World 2013 contestant without checking her educational background or her country’s endorsement. (But who wants to check too closely if it means another new country can be added to its repertoire of countries participating in the Miss World 2013 contest.)

Wolf attack: Deformed wolf ‘chomped the head’ of sleeping 16-year-old Noah Graham in Minnesota: ‘He had to physically pry the jaws of the wolf open’ (Video report)

The wolf attack on Saturday around 4 a.m. by a solitary and deformed wolf caused 16-year-old Noah Graham to end up with 17 staples in his head to close up a 4-inch laceration. Noah Graham was also treated for puncture wounds on the right and left sides of his face and is receiving a regimen of rabies shots.

Around 4 a.m. on Saturday, 16-year-old Noah Graham from Solway in Minnesota was sleeping outside his tent near the shore at the West Winnie Campground on Lake Winnibigoshish in north central Minnesota when the wolf attack occurred. Noah's father, Scott Graham, says that the attack was quiet and sudden.
"The wolf just came up behind Noah, he didn't hear anything, and it just grabbed him by the back of the head and wouldn't let go. He had to physically pry the jaws of the wolf open...to get it off of him. And once he got it off of him and he was up, the wolf stood there growling at him. And he had to shout at it and kick at it to get it to go away.”
An examination of the wolf during a necropsy at the University of Minnesota showed that “the wolf's bottom and top jaws did not align properly and it was missing at least one canine tooth.” Officials believe that the wolf’s deformity might have contributed to him being solitary and making such an unusual wolf attack since it was the first official attack by a wolf recorded in Minnesota.

Twerking Miley Cyrus shocks at 2013 Video Music Awards, but what is twerking? Watch the full 6-minute Miley Cyrus twerking video and learn

Twerking has been around for the past 20 years and is a sexually suggestive dance move that includes shaking the hips in an up-and-down bouncing motion (rather than side to side).  Adding the right kind of clothing (or lack thereof), as in the case of twerking Miley Cyrus, one is in fact reminded of the strip clubs that popularized twerking after the twerking move became popular in 1993, when DJ Jubilee recorded the dance tune "Do The Jubilee All" in which he chanted, "Twerk baby, twerk baby, twerk, twerk, twerk."

Third gender option in Germany: New law gives choice to be male, female, or neither (Video)

The third gender option law that will begin in Germany on November 1, 2013, is a revolutionary law since it gives parents the right not to pin down the sex of their child as male or female on the baby’s birth certificate but to choose “undetermined.”

The third gender option is crucial for children who are born as intersex children meaning that their sex cannot be definitely determined at birth.

Assigning the wrong sex to a baby has lifelong consequences as the story of Scottish-Australian Norrie May-Welb shows.

Norrie May-Welb was designated to be “male” on her/his birth certificate even though it was not clear to doctors whether the baby was a girl or a boy.

Bob Filner: Locks have been changed at mayor’s office, a ‘You’re NOT welcome back’ party is awaiting San Diego's (still) Mayor Bob Filner

Bob Filner’s demise is turning out to be more interesting than most reality shows. After 14 women have now come forward describing that Bob Filner has sexually harassed them, the call for San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner to resign is getting about as loud as it can. Will the 70-year-old San Diego get the message?

Bob Filner was supposed to enter rehab on Aug. 5, 2013, as he publicly announced and return to work as San Diego’s mayor on Aug. 19, 2013, but – surprise, surprise – on Aug. 9, 2013, Bob Filner is already done with his rehab.

Allegedly, Bob Filner had entered rehab a week earlier and already completed his rehab. Just like in his public statement in which he apologized for his inappropriate behavior towards women, Bob Filner is once again changing his public statement.

Mayor Bob Filner is taking personal time next week and according to a statement from the office of attorney, James L. Payne of Los Angeles, he will continue therapy sessions on an outpatient basis.

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith confirmed that the locks were changed at the 11th-floor City Hall office of the mayor.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., sent an open letter Friday calling for Bob Filner to resign and seek treatment as a private citizen. "But now I must say this directly to you: Bob, you must resign because you have betrayed the trust of the women you have victimized, the San Diegans you represent and the people you have worked with throughout your decades in public life."

San Diego’s 10 News reported on Friday night that a “You’re not welcome back” party is planned for next week.

Stay tuned ...

First hamburger made from lab-grown meat: The ‘Frankenburger’ or the world’s first test-tube hamburger is here (Videos)

So how does the first hamburger taste that was grown in a petri dish in a lab made from stem cells from a cow? “The same as a hamburger except not as fat,” says one of the taste testers who got a bite of the first hamburger made in a petri dish in a lab.

At 250,000 Euros to make, which is more than $330,000 dollars, one wonders why on earth would anyone want to grow a hamburger artificially in a lab rather than just butchering a cow.

Below are two videos that might be of interest. And we’ll certainly keep an eye on those news.

The man who has paid for the production of the world's first lab-grown hamburger has been revealed as Google co-founder Sergey Brin. The internet entrepreneur has backed the project to the tune of €250,000 (£215,000), or about $331,000, allowing scientists to grow enough meat in the lab to create a burger -- as a proof of concept -- that was cooked and eaten in London on Monday, August 5, 2013.

Elton John recovers after appendicitis and having his appendix removed: ‘I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time’

Elton John is recovering at his home in Nice, France, after he had his appendix removed at Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital on Thursday.

Elton John says that he waited too long before calling the doctors. "I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and grateful to be alive.”

Despite his age of 66, Elton John ignored the typical signs of appendicitis and performed 10 shows “in agony,” as he says.

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix which is a 3 1/2-inch-long tube of tissue that extends from the large intestine. Early signs of appendicitis can include a tenderness around the navel which eventually turns into acute pain which shifts to the lower right abdomen.

Besides tenderness and pain, appendicitis can be accompanied by symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea and/or vomiting, abdominal swelling, a fever of 99-102 degrees Fahrenheit, painful urination, and severe cramps.

As in Elton John’s case, however, some of those appendicitis symptoms might not be present or persistent enough to notify the doctor until it is almost too late.

Elton John is expressing his gratitude to his friends and fans on his news website.

"I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery.

I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year. In the meantime, please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans.

With all my love,

Elton"

Because of his appendicitis, Elton John had to cancel a series of summer shows last month but he is scheduled to be performing again on stage in September.

Last week, Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to 937 counts in order to avoid a possible death sentence. In exchange, Ariel Castro received life in prison plus 1,000 year.

Dynamic pricing: Internet companies use a shopper’s browser history, IP address, online shopping habits to change prices (Video)

Dynamic pricing is the opposite of what one might call static pricing. Dynamic means change and internet companies change their prices according to information collected from an online shopper. When shopping online, internet companies can generally see what computer a person is using, where the computer is located, what other websites the computer user has visited, what action a computer user takes after visiting a website, and how fast someone is buying something.

Ever wondered why if you look up an item on Amazon.com, the same  item all of a sudden appears on advertisements on other internet pages?

If you are a fast buyer using the same computer, the chance is that you will pay a higher price than a shopper who looks around for the best price.

As long as a shopper uses the same IP address, most often from the same home, online businesses know what they need to know about a person in order to get the most money.

As San Diego’s 10News video report from July 30, 2013, highlights, in the end -- finding the best price is up to the savvy shopper. However, being aware about dynamic pricing and knowing that online businesses collect information about one’s shopping habits (and much more) might help turn unsuspecting shoppers into savvy and dynamic shoppers.

FBI raid rescues 105 children ages 13 to 17 from prostitution in 76 cities in 3-day sweep (Video)

In a three-day sweep of 76 cities, the FBI rescued 105 children ages 13 to 17 from prostitution and sexual exploitation. A total of 150 pimps were arrested. Many of the sexually exploited teenagers were being recruited right out of the foster-care system according to John Ryan who is the chief executive of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The nonprofit organization assisted the FBI with the weekend sting.

According to a Los Angeles Times report on July 29, 2013, John Ryan said that “we are finding a very disturbing trend. They leave foster care and they literally fall off the radar. That’s something that needs to be addressed.”

During the FBI raid, Federal agents went undercover out onto streets and into hotels and casinos in 76 cities nationwide and used social media platforms as part of their investigating method in "Operation Cross Country VII, a three-day enforcement action to address commercial child sex trafficking throughout the United States."

In San Diego, the FBI raid resulted in the rescue of five teens and the arrest of six pimps. In San Francisco, the FBI raid resulted in the rescue of 12 teens and the arrest of 17 pimps.

Since 2003, FBI’s Innocence Lost initiative has identified and rescued more than 2,700 sexually exploited children.

Kate Middleton post-baby body: Why did Kate still look pregnant? (Video)

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, appeared less than 27 hours after giving birth in front of the media, cameras, reporters, and the whole world.

Still visibly tired and exhausted, Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William looked as happy and proud as any new parents when they stood outside of St. Mary’s Hospital at 7:14 p.m. on July 23, 2013.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s son George Alexander Louis was born at 4:24 p.m. on July 22, 2013, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces.

He's "got way more hair than me, thank God," said Prince William proudly about his new son. "He's got a good pair of lungs on him that's for sure. He's a good boy, he's quite heavy."

As for the little heir's fashionably late arrival, Prince William told reporters that "I'll remind him of his tardiness when he's a bit older. I know how long you've all been standing here, so hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal now and we can go and look after him."

For Kate Middleton, her eyes, her smile, her hands, and her body posture said more than any words could have expressed – she was proud to be a mother.

Mayor Bob Filner has been served with subpoena in sexual harassment case

On Friday morning, Mayor Bob Filner was served with a subpoena in the sexual harassment case and he is “to appear at a deposition on August 9,” reported 10News just a few minutes after reporting about Bob Filner’s press conference.
“The deposition will take place at the San Diego city attorney’s office and will include city attorneys and private attorney Gloria Allred, who represents former Filner communications director, Irene McCormack Jackson.”
Mayor Bob Filner said in his press conference that he would enter “intensive therapy” for two weeks beginning on August 5. City Attorney Jan Goldsmith said if Mayor Bob Filner is not deposed before August 9, he could be held in contempt of court and put in jail.

While Bob Filner does not appear to understand that the lawsuit's claims are valid and has vowed to "vigorously" defend himself against the charges, his former colleagues in Washington are speaking out.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the behavior of San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, an ex-congressman embroiled in a sexting scandal, is "reprehensible."

On Friday, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman, called on Filner to resign "for the good of the city."

San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner refuses to resign: ‘On August 5, I will be entering a counseling clinic to undergo two weeks of intensive therapy’ (Video)

Mayor Bob Filner said in a news conference in San Diego on Friday, July 26, 2013, that he will take two weeks off for therapy. "On August 5, I will be entering a counseling clinic to undergo two weeks of intensive therapy.”

Here are some excerpts from his speech and insights provided by San Diego’s 10News:
As soon as he [Bob Filner] made that remark, a sound system failure occurred and the mayor was unable to continue. He stood at the podium for a couple of minutes waiting to see if the problem could be resolved.
It could not, and he left. He returned a few minutes later, and started over.
“I must take responsibility,” the mayor said, calling his behavior inexcusable. “I apologize to the people of San Diego.”
The mayor said it was “not acceptable for me to explain my conduct as standards for a different generation.”
He said he will be at the clinic full-time, and will be briefed every morning and evening on city business.
Filner said this was "just the first step to ongoing counseling. ... I must become a better person,” he said, and added he hopes he will be forgiven one day.
He will return on August 19, and his focus will be on being “the best mayor I can be, and the best person I must be.”

Clearly a sign – Mayor Bob Filner has no intent to resign.

Bob Filner: What exactly did San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner do that is called sexual harassment by 7 women?

Even though San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner initially apologized for his inappropriate behavior towards women, he does not appear to really understand the sexual harassment allegations against him. Born on Sept. 4, 1942, the now 70-year-old mayor might have trouble understanding why his (from his point of view) “manly” behavior is causing uproar.

The first woman who came publicly forward with sexual harassment allegations against Mayor Bob Filner is 57-year-old Irene McCormack Jackson who is a longtime San Diego Union-Tribune reporter and who left to work for the Port of San Diego before accepting a job with Filner's office in January of 2013. She filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court against San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner and the city and is being represented by no other than Jackson's high-profile Los Angeles-based attorney, Gloria Allred.

During her press conference on July 22, 2013, Gloria Allred gave the following description of Mayor Bob Filner’s behavior – she should work without her panties on, that he wanted to see her naked, that he could not wait to consummate their relationship (which there was none other than professional), and that he couldn’t wait to marry her.  He had the right to demand kisses, to drag her around in a headlock while whispering sexual comments in her ear. “He apparently thought that he had the right to tell her that he wanted to see her naked,” said Gloria Allred.

Irene McCormack Jackson also described Mayor Bob Filner’s behavior during the July 22, 2013 press conference.
