Photos of 278 dogs at San Diego County Animal Services after July 4 fireworks: What to do if you lost or found a dog

As of July 5, 2016, San Diego County Animal Services is showing the photos of 140 dogs on its lost dogs webpage. And that is just in the Southern Region at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita. The San Diego Region shelter on Gaines Street is showing the photos of 99 dogs, and the Northern Region shelter in Carlsbad is showing 39 photos.

Many of those dogs ran away during the July 4 fireworks. Dogs get easily scared by the loud noise of fireworks, even if they took place a few miles away. Remember that dogs have an acute sense of hearing.

According to Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson, the photos of the scared dogs were posted as soon as each pet was kenneled at the shelter.

San Diego County Animal Services will contact the owners of dogs that have identification on them. If the owner does not pick the dog up by July 12, the animal will go up for adoption on July 13.

Dogs that do not have any identification will be available for adoption if the owner does not claim the animal within three days.

If you have lost your dog, please visit the San Diego Animal Services website and take a look at all the photos. Do not wait for the agency to contact you. A dog can easily drop his collar and ID while on the run. Keep checking the photos on a daily basis and call the agency to let them know that you lost your dog. Some dogs are still lost on the streets.

San Diego County Animal Services is providing a printable flyer for pet owners that can be distributed in the neighborhood. The flyer is available in English and in Spanish.

If you find a lost dog, the agency provides a webpage where you can type in the dog's ID tag number in order to find the dog's owner. If you choose to do so, you can contact the owner yourself.

If the lost dog does not wear a license, he might have a microchip. Call San Diego County Animal Services or take the dog to one of its three locations listed on the agency's website. Even if the dog is from out of state, the dog and the owner can be reunited.

If you do not want to take a dog to the shelter yourself, please try to get the animal to a safe place away from the street where it can be killed. If necessary, use a little treat like some meat to lure the dog to a safe area.

You can call Animal Services at (619) 767-2675. An officer will come out to pick up the dog. Once the animal has been checked for an ID and scanned for a microchip, you can always put a "first hold" on the dog -- if you would like to adopt him.

Bob Filner: Locks have been changed at mayor’s office, a ‘You’re NOT welcome back’ party is awaiting San Diego's (still) Mayor Bob Filner

Bob Filner’s demise is turning out to be more interesting than most reality shows. After 14 women have now come forward describing that Bob Filner has sexually harassed them, the call for San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner to resign is getting about as loud as it can. Will the 70-year-old San Diego get the message?

Bob Filner was supposed to enter rehab on Aug. 5, 2013, as he publicly announced and return to work as San Diego’s mayor on Aug. 19, 2013, but – surprise, surprise – on Aug. 9, 2013, Bob Filner is already done with his rehab.

Allegedly, Bob Filner had entered rehab a week earlier and already completed his rehab. Just like in his public statement in which he apologized for his inappropriate behavior towards women, Bob Filner is once again changing his public statement.

Mayor Bob Filner is taking personal time next week and according to a statement from the office of attorney, James L. Payne of Los Angeles, he will continue therapy sessions on an outpatient basis.

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith confirmed that the locks were changed at the 11th-floor City Hall office of the mayor.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., sent an open letter Friday calling for Bob Filner to resign and seek treatment as a private citizen. "But now I must say this directly to you: Bob, you must resign because you have betrayed the trust of the women you have victimized, the San Diegans you represent and the people you have worked with throughout your decades in public life."

San Diego’s 10 News reported on Friday night that a “You’re not welcome back” party is planned for next week.

Stay tuned ...

Daniel Chong: 25-year-old UCSD student gets $4.1 million for being forgotten in DEA cell for 4 1/2 days (Video)

Daniel Chong, the University of San Diego student who was forgotten in April of 2012 by the DEA for 4 1/2 days in a windowless 5-by-10-foot cell, reached a settlement with the U.S. government for $4.1 million according to Daniel Chong’s attorneys (Julia Yoo and Eugene Iredale) on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

After his lawyers get their share of the 4.1 million, Daniel Chong plans to buy a house for his family and as he says in the video, “the rest of it I’m going to protect from myself. I am going to lock it all away. … I’m going for the retirement.”

Since his ordeal, Daniel Chong has changed his major at UCSD from engineering to economics. Besides pursuing his career, he plans to take care of his mother.

FBI raid rescues 105 children ages 13 to 17 from prostitution in 76 cities in 3-day sweep (Video)

In a three-day sweep of 76 cities, the FBI rescued 105 children ages 13 to 17 from prostitution and sexual exploitation. A total of 150 pimps were arrested. Many of the sexually exploited teenagers were being recruited right out of the foster-care system according to John Ryan who is the chief executive of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The nonprofit organization assisted the FBI with the weekend sting.

According to a Los Angeles Times report on July 29, 2013, John Ryan said that “we are finding a very disturbing trend. They leave foster care and they literally fall off the radar. That’s something that needs to be addressed.”

During the FBI raid, Federal agents went undercover out onto streets and into hotels and casinos in 76 cities nationwide and used social media platforms as part of their investigating method in "Operation Cross Country VII, a three-day enforcement action to address commercial child sex trafficking throughout the United States."

In San Diego, the FBI raid resulted in the rescue of five teens and the arrest of six pimps. In San Francisco, the FBI raid resulted in the rescue of 12 teens and the arrest of 17 pimps.

Since 2003, FBI’s Innocence Lost initiative has identified and rescued more than 2,700 sexually exploited children.

Mayor Bob Filner has been served with subpoena in sexual harassment case

On Friday morning, Mayor Bob Filner was served with a subpoena in the sexual harassment case and he is “to appear at a deposition on August 9,” reported 10News just a few minutes after reporting about Bob Filner’s press conference.
“The deposition will take place at the San Diego city attorney’s office and will include city attorneys and private attorney Gloria Allred, who represents former Filner communications director, Irene McCormack Jackson.”
Mayor Bob Filner said in his press conference that he would enter “intensive therapy” for two weeks beginning on August 5. City Attorney Jan Goldsmith said if Mayor Bob Filner is not deposed before August 9, he could be held in contempt of court and put in jail.

While Bob Filner does not appear to understand that the lawsuit's claims are valid and has vowed to "vigorously" defend himself against the charges, his former colleagues in Washington are speaking out.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the behavior of San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, an ex-congressman embroiled in a sexting scandal, is "reprehensible."

On Friday, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman, called on Filner to resign "for the good of the city."

San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner refuses to resign: ‘On August 5, I will be entering a counseling clinic to undergo two weeks of intensive therapy’ (Video)

Mayor Bob Filner said in a news conference in San Diego on Friday, July 26, 2013, that he will take two weeks off for therapy. "On August 5, I will be entering a counseling clinic to undergo two weeks of intensive therapy.”

Here are some excerpts from his speech and insights provided by San Diego’s 10News:
As soon as he [Bob Filner] made that remark, a sound system failure occurred and the mayor was unable to continue. He stood at the podium for a couple of minutes waiting to see if the problem could be resolved.
It could not, and he left. He returned a few minutes later, and started over.
“I must take responsibility,” the mayor said, calling his behavior inexcusable. “I apologize to the people of San Diego.”
The mayor said it was “not acceptable for me to explain my conduct as standards for a different generation.”
He said he will be at the clinic full-time, and will be briefed every morning and evening on city business.
Filner said this was "just the first step to ongoing counseling. ... I must become a better person,” he said, and added he hopes he will be forgiven one day.
He will return on August 19, and his focus will be on being “the best mayor I can be, and the best person I must be.”

Clearly a sign – Mayor Bob Filner has no intent to resign.

Bob Filner: What exactly did San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner do that is called sexual harassment by 7 women?

Even though San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner initially apologized for his inappropriate behavior towards women, he does not appear to really understand the sexual harassment allegations against him. Born on Sept. 4, 1942, the now 70-year-old mayor might have trouble understanding why his (from his point of view) “manly” behavior is causing uproar.

The first woman who came publicly forward with sexual harassment allegations against Mayor Bob Filner is 57-year-old Irene McCormack Jackson who is a longtime San Diego Union-Tribune reporter and who left to work for the Port of San Diego before accepting a job with Filner's office in January of 2013. She filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court against San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner and the city and is being represented by no other than Jackson's high-profile Los Angeles-based attorney, Gloria Allred.

During her press conference on July 22, 2013, Gloria Allred gave the following description of Mayor Bob Filner’s behavior – she should work without her panties on, that he wanted to see her naked, that he could not wait to consummate their relationship (which there was none other than professional), and that he couldn’t wait to marry her.  He had the right to demand kisses, to drag her around in a headlock while whispering sexual comments in her ear. “He apparently thought that he had the right to tell her that he wanted to see her naked,” said Gloria Allred.

Irene McCormack Jackson also described Mayor Bob Filner’s behavior during the July 22, 2013 press conference.

Comic-Con 2013 San Diego's Mayor Bob Filner mock-warning by KOGO (Video)

San Diego’s News & Talk show KOGO published a mock-warning to Comic-Con 2013 fans about Bob Filner warning everyone about a “serial hugger on the loose.” Take a listen to KOGO's PSA and enjoy …
“The people of San Diego would like to welcome those dedicated fans of Comic-Con to America’s finest city. We encourage you to take advantage of the many attributes and attractions our city has to offer. While you are here, we urge you to use caution when noticing strange looking men offering free hugs. You see, a serial hugger is on the loose. And some hugs may have caused discomfort by the recipient. If a man approaches you wearing what looks to be a saggy joker mask and claiming to be the mayor of San Diego, you are warned that the man you are facing is not wearing a mask and is indeed our mayor. Step aside and flee as quickly as you can. This man has been known to put his victims in headlocks and ram his tongue down the throats of the unsuspecting. We hope you enjoy your time in San Diego.”

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner in the hot seat: Should he resign?

San Diego’s Mayor Bob Filner is in the hot seat for alleged sexual harassment and mingling with real estate as San Diego’s 10News three video reports below show. Should Mayor Bob Filner resign or is his apology “I must and will change my behavior” enough?

A private investigator told San Diego’s Team 10 how Republicans have watched Bob Filner for years and how undercover pictures and videos show Bob Filner with women.

And as San Diego's Team 10 reports, Mayor Bob Filner isn't only "messing" with women but also with real estate as a couple from La Jolla had to find out.

"I have no idea, other than he is abusing his power in some way or he owed someone a favor," Jack Visin said. "I think he has a lot better things to do than messing around with an old 600-square-foot cottage."

Should Mayor Bob Filner save taxpayers money and resign?

Yoga classes in school: Parents fight against Yoga class but a Blacksmith knows better

Yoga classes in school has been the topic by several news outlets in Southern California this week.

“Parents of two children in the Encinitas Union School district in San Diego County sued the district because they claim the Ashtanga yoga classes being offered in place of more traditional physical education instruction indoctrinate the children. But on Monday afternoon, Judge John S. Meyer ruled in favor of the school district,” reported San Diego’s NBC News on July 2, 2013.

Despite the judge’s ruling, one can expect that the parents’ lawyer will continue to fight even though the Yoga classes and the whole program is being funded completely by a $500,000 grant from the K.P. Jois Foundation. The yoga program is not taking away money from other school funds.

But more than that, the parents are missing a point.

As a writer, I prefer not to write news in the first person but since this is a personal experience, it is necessary.

After I adopted a rescue horse, I found a Farrier who could finally take care of my horse’s feet since they had been neglected for a long time. For non-horse people, a Farrier is a Blacksmith who takes care of a horse’s feet and who makes a horse’s shoes.

My Farrier Jason looked like a Blacksmith from the Old West, strong, heavily build, rugged, and a no-nonsense guy. He could make my horse do anything whether she wanted to or not. And she is a stubborn Arab girl.

Jason was, like many rough guys, not much of a talker. However, after taking care of my horse’s feet, he told me one time that being close to 60 years old, he is glad he didn’t have to deal with his back pain anymore.

To make a long story short, being a Farrier takes a lot out of one’s back because lifting horses’ feet all day takes a lot of strength and a lot of bending over.

Having been a Farrier for most of his life, Jason dealt with a lot of back pain and no medication and no doctor could help him. Until one doctor recommended taking a yoga class.

Jason attended a yoga class for weeks and it took care of his back pain completely. Unfortunately, when his wife discovered that he was the only guy in a yoga class that consisted of some skinny girls in tights, she made him stop.

Jason’s experience with yoga, however, made all the difference in dealing with his back pain and his overall well-being that he continued to do yoga at home with “my little yoga mat,” as he called it.

I wonder if the parents who are fighting against the yoga classes in school would hear what an almost 60-year-old tough guy has to say about yoga, if it would make a difference to them.
