When Kate Middleton married Prince William in Westminster
Abbey on April 29, 2011, she became the Princess William of Wales so it is no
surprise that Prince William used Kate Middleton’s formal title and her formal occupation when officially registering
his son’s birth certificate on August 2, 2013.
Kate Middleton's name on her son's birth certificate is "Catherine Elizabeth Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge."
Kate Middleton's name on her son's birth certificate is "Catherine Elizabeth Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge."
While his wife Kate Middleton’s occupation is listed as "Princess
of the United Kingdom," Prince William’s own occupation can be seen as "Prince of
the United Kingdom."
And the little guy? His
Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge
According to a British Mirror report,
Prince William took care of registering his son’s July 22, 2013, birth at
Kensington Palace on August 2, 2013, while 31-year-old Kate Middleton stayed
with Prince George Alexander Louis and the proud grandparents, Carole and
Michael Middleton, at their home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
“The birth certificate confirmed that Catherine Elizabeth and William Arthur Philip Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had a son, George Alexander Louis, born at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington, Westminster, on July 22.”
Registrar Alison Cathcart said: “We also registered the
birth of the Queen and Prince Charles and princes William and Harry, so it’s
great to see that tradition continue.”
After having completed the formalities of registering his
son’s birth certificate on Friday, Prince William could be seen in a charity
polo match with his brother Harry. After two weeks off from work for the birth
of his son, Prince William, like most fathers, is returning to work this week as
a search and rescue pilot based at RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales.
And like most mothers, Kate Middleton is taking care of her
baby and herself since she is breastfeeding.
And like most European new parents, Kate and William decided
not to follow the tradition of having a “royal” nanny for George Alexander
Louis but to do as much as they can do themselves; with the help of the
grandparents, of course, -- a new tradition that started to begin with Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana.
“A real shift in royal childcare came with Princess Diana‘s desire to play an active role in her sons’ upbringing. She would go so far as to purposefully give the nanny the day off and skip out on royal events just to spend extra time with her kids.”
Kate Middleton reminds many Europeans of Princess Diana
since both came from non-royal families. Kate Middleton also reminds many
Europeans of Princess Diana because their understanding of being “royal” is not
related to blood but related to responsibility.
Despite having the title Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, or
Duchess of Cambridge (for royal engagements), or Catherine Elizabeth Her Royal
Highness The Duchess of Cambridge (as seen on the birth certificate), Catherine
Elizabeth Middleton or simply called Kate Middleton is a typical European girl
and now apparently a very typical European mother.
Her relationship with Prince William (including a breakup),
her age of 29 when she got married (born January 9, 1982, married April 29,
2011), and her age of 31 when she had her first baby, her choice to breastfeed,
her choice to do without a nanny but the support of grandparents, are all very
European-like.
As such, following Kate Middleton is not an infatuation with
a princess but an international bridge of information about different countries and different cultures; information
worthwhile knowing – at least for some.
