Government shutdown: What is Drunk Dial Congress and how does it work? You’ll get to talk to someone in Congress, even when drunk (Video)

So what exactly is DrunkDialCongress.org and how does it work? If you are angry enough at the government shutdown and went for a drink, going to drunkdialcongress.org might just be the thing to do.

You put in your phone number on DrunkDialCongress.org and “an inebriated voice from a 1-800 number will call you back and ask, ‘Is this government shutdown making you want to drink?’ before transferring to Capitol Hill.” Once you are transferred to some random Representative or maybe an intern, you do have the chance to talk to a real person and to sound off about the government shutdown.

The website was created by a former Obama staff member who seems to know what members of Congress listen to (since they have trouble listening to each other) – alcohol.

The website drunkdialcongress.org was created by the liberal mobile ad firm Revolution Messaging along with three other liberal and government watchdog groups including Common Cause, The Sunlight Foundation and RootStrikers after it became known that members of Congress were drinking.

“Note: As Members of Congress quickly returned from their final symbolic, non-effective and otherwise useless votes to avert a government shutdown, the heavy drinking began. Reports of our representatives getting plastered on the government's dime - the one we have left - have come streaming in from witnesses all over Capitol Hill. Now's your chance to tell your Representative what you really think of their actions.”
